Stealie G Griffith started working in the Balkan mines in 1926 at age 13.
In the 1930's, Stealie Griffith worked in the Balkan mines plus, my
grandfather Claybourne Hubbard taught Stealie Griffith how to make furniture.
This is how Stealie Griffith met Effie Mae Hubbard and they married in 1938.
Stealie Griffith worked in the Balkan mines until it closed.
Stealie and Mae Hubbard Griffith's children were: Kathleen, Barbara, Alvin and
Judy. Kathleen, Barbara and Alvin were born in Pond Hollow.
Mae Hubbard Griffith was a cook at the Balkan School lunch room in the 1950's and
1960's.
In the 1960's, Stealie and Mae Hubbard Griffith moved to Board Tree, then, in 1968
they moved to Dayton, OH. where Stealie Griffith retired. Stealie and Mae Hubbard Griffith
moved back to KY in 1976.
Stealie Griffith was the oldest son of Alva and Grace Bowen Griffith.
Effie Mae Hubbard was the oldest child of Claybourne Hubbard.
