WHITE LAKE, Mich - James A. Comparoni , Sr., a truly great father, husband and friend, departed this life June 25, 2007, at the age of 74.
Born in Valley Creek, Tenn., and raised in Pruden, Tenn., he died peacefully at his Michigan home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Bobbie, originally from Harrogate, Tenn., for 51 years; and was the father of Barbara (Steve) Grantner, Jane (Greg) Gepford, Jennifer Comparoni (Matt Bernstein), and James (Lori) Comparoni , Jr.
He was preceded in death by father Lorenso, mother Lucy and brother Lorenso.
He is survived by sisters Betty Morin and Frances Rososky, and brother Alex Comparoni ; 14 wonderful grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
With strong arms and a warm heart, he moved to Michigan in the early 1950s, served in the U.S. Army, and became a successful small businessman. He took pride in his work, owning service stations in the Pontiac area for more than 30 years, including Comparoni 's Garage in Lake Orion, Mich.
He had a trustworthy handshake and legendary sense of humor. He will be fondly remembered in many parts of the country by countless friends, including those at Brotherhood 561 Masonic Lodge, North Oakland Shrine Club, American Legion 108 in Oxford, Mich., and pals at his humble deer camp, "The Shack," in Newberry, Mich.
Friends may visit at the Cox Funeral home in Jellico, Tenn., on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Funeral mass will be Friday at 11 a.m., at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Jellico, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harvest Baptist Church in Waterford, Mich., and St. Boniface Catholic Church in Jellico, Tenn.
