Palpaw John Davis used to tell me stories about his ancestors on the porch of the old homeplace on Hances Creek, Ky and one of them was about his uncle William James Davis. He gave me the picture of James on the left.(original is black & white about 20 inches by 30.)

He indicated that he had fought in the Civil War and had died of Yellow Fever in a Barn at Gray, Ky.

Many years later, I found out that he enrolled September 15, 1861 at Camp Dick Robinson and was discharged August 6, 1862 Surgeon certificate Nashville, Tennessee
Died October 15th on way back to Hances Creek at Gray, Ky.
